A Missouri man was arrested after police say he was driving drunk in a company vehicle in Ottumwa.

33-year-old Corie Michael Smith of Memphis, MO was charged with operating while intoxicated (serious misdemeanor) and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent (aggravated misdemeanor).

Ottumwa police said on Tuesday morning, Smith was driving his company’s truck without their permission. Smith was hired to make a delivery to Chicago, Illinois but instead drove the truck to an unknown location and continued to utilize the vehicle for his personal use.

According to court records, the truck was stopped by police at 8:54 AM on the 100 block of South Milner Street. Smith allegedly displayed slowed speech, difficulty enunciating his words, and unsteady balance. Smith agreed to take a Field Sobriety Test and failed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test.

When speaking to officers post-Miranda, Smith refused to give a urine sample after allegedly telling officers he consumed marijuana before the traffic stop.

Smith is currently in the Wapello County Jail. His bail is pending a hearing with a magistrate judge.
