Ottumwa Man Faces False Imprisonment, Willful Injury & Other Charges

An Ottumwa man faces several charges after authorities say he tied a woman to a bed and repeatedly assaulted her while three children witnessed the incident.

32-year-old Akiter Nino has been charged with willful injury, first-degree harassment, false imprisonment, three counts of child endangerment, and domestic abuse assault.

According to court records, on October 14 at a residence on Oakwood Drive, Nino punched a female in the face. Police say Nino and the victim were living together at the time and were in an intimate relationship.

Nino is accused of strangling the victim with an extension cord, using extension cords to tie the victim to a bed, and striking her with a baseball bat. Three children (ages 12, 9, and 3) were present in the home at the time the alleged offenses occurred.

Court records say Nino ignored the victim’s requests to be released and also threatened to kill her multiple times.

Nino was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. Court records do not show a bond amount.

Nino has been ordered to not have any contact with the victim or the three children.
