An Ottumwa man faces multiple charges after authorities say he left the scene of an accident while driving drunk with his child in the vehicle.

27-year-old Richard Davis was charged with abandonment or neglect of a dependent person (Class C felony) and operating while intoxicated (serious misdemeanor).

On October 7 at 7:13 PM, court records say Davis was involved in an accident at the intersection of Church and Richmond and left the scene.

An officer from the Ottumwa Police Department smelled the odor of alcohol on Davis when he was located, according to court documents. Police say Davis admitted to consuming alcohol. Additionally, a twelve-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the accident and during the traffic stop.

The criminal complaint states Davis failed a Field Sobriety Test and registered 0.24 BAC when he submitted to a breath test.

Davis was transported to the Wapello County Jail and was later released on his own recognizance.

Davis waived his preliminary hearing.
