An Ottumwa man is accused of intentionally ramming his car into another vehicle earlier this month.

Trey Jeffers, 19, was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and third-degree criminal mischief, both aggravated misdemeanors.

On October 18th at approximately 1:38 AM, court documents allege Jeffers, driving a 2012 Honda Fit, struck a vehicle on purpose multiple times on Winchester Road in Ottumwa, causing damage to the vehicle’s rear bumper and taillights. The criminal report states Jeffers was driving recklessly and prevented the victim from escaping by using his vehicle. Police say Jeffers’ actions were captured on camera.

Additionally, Jeffers allegedly exited his Honda and kicked the other vehicle’s doors which caused dents and stomped on the windshield.

Authorities estimated the cost of repairs to be between $750 and $1,500.

A warrant for Jeffers’ arrest was issued on October 20th and he was taken into custody on October 28th.

Jeffers was taken to the Wapello County Jail and was later freed after posting a $4,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 6th.
