Joseph E. Olinger, 62, of rural Bloomfield, died at 7:12 a.m. April 12, 2023 at home.

He was born February 3, 1961 in Ottumwa to James and Emogene Elaine Hourihan Olinger.

Joe had attended Davis County High School. He had worked at American Tank & Welding and Hormel. Joe had also worked for Merril Norris managing his real estate and cattle operation for many years. He continued taking care of the farms over the past 20 years through the new owners.

Joe enjoyed everything about life outdoors, hunting, mushroom hunting and spending time with friends and family. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and Penalty Preserve Deer Camp.

Surviving is his former wife, Patricia Green and their two children, Jessica “Sis” (Chavo) Hernandez of Bloomfield and Ryan “Brother” (Kristan) Olinger USAF (Ret.) of Sherwood, AR; 4 grandchildren, Carter Olinger, Raiyna Hernandez, Oliver Hernandez and Emma Olinger; siblings, Marilyn Olinger, of Ottumwa, Mary Lou Brown of Mishicot, WI, Barbara (Ferenc) Kanter of Seeheim, Germany, Debra Olinger of Altoona, Paul (Diana) Olinger of Ottumwa, Tom (Margie) Olinger of Downing, MO, Steven (Rev. Donna) Olinger of Bloomfield, Robert (Sherry) Olinger of Missouri; many nieces and nephews; his dog, Max a.k.a. “Sausage”; and wonderful friends Bryan “Bur” Carnes and Becki and Patrick Geraty.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Charles Olinger.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15th at Reece Funeral Home until the time of the service.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 15th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to his daughter, Jessica, for trees to be planted in Joe’s memory at Pioneer Ridge.
