The Van Buren County 4-H program is kicking off its 2026-27 year on September 1st with the addition of three new clubs, giving youth across the county even more ways to get involved, according to an announcement from County Youth Coordinator LaTisha Scott-Snead.
Iowa 4-H offers three types of clubs. Traditional Clubs serve youth in grades 4 through 12 with monthly meetings that include business, education, and recreation. SPIN — or Special Interest — Clubs focus on a single topic or area of interest. Clover Kids Clubs serve youth in kindergarten through third grade with short, hands-on learning activities. Van Buren County offers all three types.
Traditional Clubs
The following Traditional Clubs will be available during the 2026-27 program year: Blazing Trails in Douds, Friendly Four Corners in Lebanon, Fox River 4-H’ers in Keosauqua, Jolly Trio in Farmington, The Wranglers in Birmingham, Horseshoe Bend in Keosauqua, Sharp Shooters Shooting Sports Club in rural Hillsboro, and 4-H Warriors Homeschool Club in Keosauqua.
New SPIN Clubs
Two new SPIN Clubs are being added this year. Ignite Your Spark is a “choose your own adventure” style club that allows members to explore a variety of interests across 17 classes offered throughout the program year, with youth able to participate in one class or all 17. Sew and Grow — which was announced earlier this summer — provides members with opportunities to develop sewing and quilting skills through six one-day sewing workshops and five multi-day events, with the opportunity to complete up to five quilts during the year.
Clover Kids Opportunities
Van Buren County offers Clover Kids programming through all Traditional Clubs — excluding Sharp Shooters — which meet concurrently with Traditional Club meeting times, as well as through Warrior Explorers, a homeschool Clover Kids Club. A new Clover Kids club called Clover Sprouts is also being added this year, offering monthly hands-on learning activities for youth in kindergarten through third grade designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and skill development.
Scott-Snead said she is excited about the expanded offerings. “We are excited to expand our club offerings and provide even more opportunities for youth to explore their interests, build life skills, and connect with others,” she said. “Whether a young person is interested in sewing, hands-on projects, leadership, or trying something new, there’s a place for them in Van Buren County 4-H.”
