The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) added an Ottumwa location to the growing list of spots concerning a possible measles outbreak.
HHS and local health officials say Pizza Ranch, located at 1791 Venture Avenue was visited by individuals with measles on Friday, August 21st between noon and 3:00 PM. Anyone who visited the establishment in that time window should monitor themselves for symptoms of measles, according to health officials.
Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, red/watery eyes, runny nose, and rashes. Officials advise individuals with potential symptoms to call their healthcare provider or nearest emergency room and let them know before arrival that you were exposed to measles and are experiencing symptoms.
As of August 21st, there have been 16 confirmed cases of measles in southern Iowa with two locations in Bloomfield and one location in Ottumwa labeled as places with evidence of person-to-person spread. Officials warn measles is highly contagious and can spread to anyone who is not immune and exposed.
