Police say an Ottumwa man broke into a business on two separate occasions last month and stole money.

William Martin, 68, was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary (Class D felony) and third-degree theft (aggravated misdemeanor).

On June 27th at 5:40 AM, court records say Martin entered a business on the 100 block of South Market Street in Ottumwa while it was closed and stole approximately $1,000.

Police allege Martin broke into the same establishment two days later, on June 29th at 4:40 AM. In this instance, court documents say Martin looked around the store and the cash register before leaving.

A warrant for Martin’s arrest was issued on July 24th, and he was taken into custody later that day.

Martin is currently housed in the Wapello County Jail, where he is being held on a $5,000 cash-only bond.

Martin has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 30th.
