A Wisconsin woman was arrested Thursday afternoon on a custodial interference warrant after Mount Pleasant Police officers, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 218 and safely recovered a two-year-old child, according to a press release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 3:36 p.m. on July 23rd, the Mount Pleasant Police Department was notified of a child abduction by a non-custodial parent traveling on U.S. Highway 218. The abduction originated out of McMinn County, Tennessee. Officers from all three agencies responded to the area, and at 3:53 p.m. a vehicle matching the provided description was spotted by a Mount Pleasant Police officer near mile marker 41 on Highway 218. A traffic stop was conducted at that location.
As a result of the stop, Laura Alease Skogland, 38, of Grantsburg, Wisconsin was arrested on a custodial interference warrant out of McMinn County, Tennessee. A two-year-old juvenile was safely secured at the scene and turned over to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, which assisted in making arrangements for the child’s safe return.
