Lois J. Nydle, age 91, of Grand Island formerly of Ottumwa, IA, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at CHI St. Francis with her loving family at her side.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 29th at 10am at All Faiths Funeral Home with Dan Naranjo officiating. The Service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. Burial will follow at the Duff Cemetery. A graveside service will be held at the Ottumwa Cemetery in Ottumwa, IA on Monday, August 3rd at 3pm. Memorials are suggested to the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa, Voice for Companion Animals in Grand Island or the Duff Cemetery.
Lois was born May 15, 1935, in Duff, NE to Herman and Eunice Boerger and was delivered by her grandmother Emma Boerger. Lois was baptized on September 29, 1935. She graduated from Rock County High School and after graduation married Dallas Dorsey. While in Bassett, NE, Lois worked at the Commercial National Bank and the drugstore. She enjoyed making old fashioned sodas. They moved to Ottumwa, IA and later divorced. Lois worked at the Union Bank for 25 years as an account manager and then loan officer. Her favorite memory is when a 12-year-old boy came in with his parents to open a savings account, he had $12 of his own money and when asked what his plans were for his savings, he stated to buy a yellow airplane and fly. Lois married Fred Nydle in 1982 and shared 30 fun-filled years of marriage before his passing. They were able to travel to 20 countries together and shared many laughs along the way. Their Bichon dogs Freestone, Tessie, Amy and Betsy were their world.
Lois was an avid gardener with the most beautiful flowers of many varieties. She enjoyed painting everything from gourds to boards to oil painting. The quilts she made with much love and detailed embroidering. She enjoyed cooking and made the best soups and desserts with entering her “Pepperoni Bread” in a contest. Her nieces enjoyed their memories of shopping, hunting cactus, making granola, and having long telephone conversations. Lois so enjoyed the “Girls” who worked with Fred. Lois continued to have weekly lunches with Cathy Reck (the farm girl), Chris Sinnott (Chrissy), and Evelyn. She enjoyed her friend Sandy Anderson and their monthly outings to Women’s Club. Her dear friends Bri and Tami enjoyed taking her flower shopping and would come home with a carload of flowers. Lois would venture up the street to Hy-Vee to visit all her Hy-Vee friends, shop, and get many hugs. Her friend Lois Wailes and her would go to lunch and always have one or two drinks together. Lois had the most adoring neighbors on Indian Trail Road that treated her like family, especially after the passing of Fred. Lisa and Brent Lott, who lived next door would include her in family meals, birthdays, holidays and ice cream trips. Lois enjoyed the “Lott Kids” and eventually watching their grandchildren grow and play. Her neighbor boy Ben across the street always brought her great joy. Ben spent time visiting, inviting her to attend church with his mom Abby and family and have them over for birthdays and holidays. Don would take her on car rides, just to see what was going on in town!
Her neighbors Steve and Brent always made sure her drive was cleared. Steve and Lois had a friendly competition of making “Vegetable Soup” trading when the traveling jar was empty and he would add in his special peanut brittle for her.
In May of 2025 Lois made the decision to move back to Nebraska to be closer to her family, saying she still had “Sand” in her shoes from the Sandhills and needed to get back to her roots. Her new friends at Heritage of Sagewood gave her such warmth and she would thank us daily for finding her this special new home saying “I just love it here”. Lois spent many evenings and weekends with her niece Carole and her husband, Brian going on “Driving Adventures” and her most recent wish was taking a trip to Pella for the Tulip Festival. Carole and Brian enjoyed every minute from the time they received her phone call telling them she wanted to move to Grand Island. Many evenings and weekends were spent on the deck with simple conversation and boat rides. They took advantage of hosting many family gatherings with their children and holiday celebrations at their home with Lois of shared meals, meaningful conversations, beautiful drives and abundant hugs. Lois best gift was “Always positive, always loving, always our Special Aunt Lois—-and ladies always remember to wear your lipstick!
Those left to cherish her memory include her nieces, Lori (Rod) Stolcpart and Carole (Brian) Urbom; great nieces and nephews, Brad (Tara) Stolcpart, Jenna (Ryan) Pickel, Michaela (Chayse) Gulzow, Allison (Ryan) Roach and Andrew Urbom; an abundance of friends and cousins.
Preceded in death by husband, Fred; brother, Ben and sister-in-law, Judith Boerger.
