The Oskaloosa Police Department is reminding residents to be cautious after receiving reports of individuals going door-to-door in the city claiming to represent Fox Pest Control and R3 Roofing.
According to police, the individuals have been offering pest control services and assistance with hail damage insurance claims for roof repairs.
Officials say neither Fox Pest Control nor R3 Roofing has been issued a valid City of Oskaloosa peddler’s permit and, as a result, they are not authorized to conduct door-to-door sales or solicit business within the city.
The city’s permitting process is designed to help protect residents by allowing local officials to complete required reviews, which may include verifying sales tax compliance and conducting background checks before permits are issued.
Police also remind residents that they are never obligated to speak with a door-to-door salesperson, regardless of whether the individual claims to have a permit. Residents are under no obligation to answer questions, listen to a sales presentation, sign paperwork, provide personal information, or allow anyone onto their property.
Anyone approached by a door-to-door solicitor may ask to see a City-issued peddler’s permit. If the individual cannot produce one, ignores a posted “No Soliciting” sign, refuses to leave when asked, continues pressuring a resident after being told no, or returns after being instructed not to, residents are encouraged to contact the Oskaloosa Police Department’s non-emergency line at (641) 672-2557.
Anyone who feels threatened or needs immediate police assistance should call 911.
