The Van Buren County Farm Service Agency will host two informational sessions on Wednesday, July 8th for producers interested in learning about the FSA County Committee nomination and election process, according to Ann DeHart, County Executive Director.

The sessions will be held at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Producers can attend in person at the Van Buren County FSA Office at 1016 Franklin Street in Keosauqua, or online via Microsoft Teams by calling the office in advance to register.

County committee members play an important role in how federal farm programs are administered locally. Nationwide, more than 7,700 members of the agricultural community serve on FSA county committees, which typically consist of three to 11 members serving three-year terms. Committees help guide disaster programs, conservation initiatives, commodity and price support programs, and other agricultural matters at the county level.

For Van Buren County, this year’s election will take place in Local Administrative Area 3, which includes Village, Lick Creek, Chequest, and Van Buren Townships. Agricultural producers who participate or cooperate in a USDA program and reside in that area may be nominated for candidacy. Producers can nominate themselves or others, and qualifying organizations may also submit nominations. All nomination forms must be postmarked or received at the local FSA office by August 3rd, 2026.

For more information on the election process, including fact sheets, nomination forms, and frequently asked questions, visit fsa.usda.gov/coc, or contact Ann DeHart at 319-293-3371 or ann.dehart@usda.gov.
