Two separate crashes over a three-day span in Lee County over the weekend and into this week left multiple people injured, according to Iowa State Patrol crash reports.
Saturday, June 27th
A motorcycle crash late Saturday night in Lee County left two people injured. A 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Todd Helmick, 36, of Argyle, was traveling south on US Highway 61 just north of 185th Street south of Wever at approximately 11:18 p.m. when the motorcycle went out of control for reasons that remain unknown. The crash injured Helmick and his passenger, Ashley Lundeen, 33, of West Burlington. Both were transported to University of Iowa Hospital, with Lundeen flown by Air Care helicopter and Helmick transported by Medforce.
The crash remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Lee County EMS.
Monday, June 29th
A three-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 1:14 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and McKinley Avenue in downtown Keokuk. According to the crash report, the first vehicle, a 2012 Jeep Patriot, was stopped at the intersection attempting to turn westbound onto Main Street when it entered the intersection and was struck by a 2012 Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound on Main Street. Both vehicles came to rest in the westbound lane of Main Street east of McKinley Avenue. A third vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Ram driven by Jan Snodgrass, 76, of Keokuk, was traveling westbound on Main Street and attempted to stop but struck the Nissan Rogue.
Two occupants were injured in the crash; their names were withheld in the crash report at the time of publication. One was transported to University of Iowa Hospital by Medforce, and the other was transported to the same hospital by Air Evac.
The crash was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Keokuk Police and Fire Departments, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County EMS, Lee County 911, Hancock County Illinois Ambulance, Air Evac, and Medforce.
