Officials with the Iowa Department of Corrections have reported the death of an inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville.
Keith Clayton Mesner, 69, died at 7:34 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2026, while in the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Mesner was serving a sentence for crimes committed in Woodbury County. According to prison records, his incarceration began on August 14, 1984.
The Iowa Department of Corrections has not released additional details regarding the cause of death. As is standard procedure, the death will be reviewed by the appropriate authorities.
