An Oskaloosa woman faces charges after an alleged theft incident at Walmart and an apparent violation of a court-issued no-contact order.
According to court records, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched to Walmart, located in the 1900 block of Venture Drive, on June 22 for a reported theft.
Authorities allege that 29-year-old Kenndal Hafele of Oskaloosa entered the store and failed to scan multiple items at self-checkout. Court documents state Hafele left all points of sale without paying for merchandise valued at less than $300.
When officers arrived, Hafele was reportedly found sitting in a vehicle speaking with the victim in the case. Law enforcement officials said Hafele and the victim were subject to a valid no-contact order that prohibited any contact between the two.
Hafele was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. She was later released after posting a $300 cash or surety bond.
Court records show the no-contact order was reissued on June 23. A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for July 30.
Hafele is charged with Fifth-Degree Theft, a simple misdemeanor, and Violation of a No-Contact/Protective Order, also a simple misdemeanor.
