The Scholastic Clay Target Program’s International Skeet Championship wrapped up this past weekend at the Mahaska County Izaak Walton League near Oskaloosa, bringing together some of the state’s top youth shooters for one of the sport’s most demanding events.
International skeet, often referred to as Olympic skeet, is considered more difficult than traditional American skeet because of its faster targets, unpredictable timing delays, and the requirement that shooters hold their guns at hip level until the target appears.
In the men’s SCTP individual competition, Easton Roe of the Oskaloosa Shooting Team claimed first place with a score of 92. Lincoln Nilson, also representing the Oskaloosa Shooting Team, finished second with a 91, while Dalton Bruxvoort of Pella Shooters Club, Inc. also posted a 91.
Sawyer Stolee of the South Hardin Trap Team won the women’s SCTP individual title with a score of 64.
The Oskaloosa Shooting Team captured the SCTP team championship with a combined score of 268.
The state championship series continues next weekend as the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) takes place May 30-31 at Big Springs Shooting Complex near Searsboro. More than 200 entries from 79 athletes representing seven teams are expected to compete.
Throughout the six-week championship series, more than 3,000 athletes representing over 100 teams across Iowa are expected to participate in one or more disciplines. The 2025-2026 season began Sept. 1 and will conclude July 11-19 at the national championships at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio.
