A local woman is facing a serious misdemeanor charge after authorities say she failed to return to a residential facility following a court-approved job-seeking furlough.
On April 16, an arrest warrant was served on Carrie Morris, 38, of Ottumwa by the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the criminal complaint, Morris is charged with voluntary absence from custody, a serious misdemeanor.
Court documents state that on or about February 6 at approximately 1:07 p.m., Morris signed out of the Ottumwa Residential Facility on a job-seeking furlough. She was expected to return by 5:00 p.m. but failed to do so.
Authorities placed Morris on escape status at 7:00 p.m. that same day.
The warrant was later served on April 16. Morris has waived her preliminary hearing and entered a plea of not guilty.
She is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.
