In a recent domestic violence incident, local authorities were called to investigate an assault that occurred in the presence of an infant.
On March 18th at approximately 10:03 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a report of child endangerment in the 400 block of S. Lillian.
According to court documents, Brian Munyon, 32, of Ottumwa, is married to the victim, with whom he shares a minor child. The criminal complaint details that Munyon allegedly assaulted the victim by striking her in the face with a spray bottle. He reportedly swatted the victim’s glasses off her face, leaving a visible red mark and a small abrasion on her cheek. The victim described Munyon’s actions as offensive and startling.
Court filings notes the couple’s infant child was present in the mother’s arms during the incident. The complaint suggests that Munyon’s actions posed a substantial risk to the infant’s emotional and mental well-being.
Following the incident, Munyon was arrested and taken to the Wapello County Jail but was later released on a $1,000 bond. He has been charged with child endangerment, classified as an aggravated misdemeanor. A no-contact order was established on March 19th.
