Fairfield Police Arrest Armed Individual Threatening Residents

On February 18, 2026, the Fairfield Police Department received a call concerning a male individual threatening residents in the 1300 Block of West Jackson Avenue. The report indicated that the suspect was outside a trailer on the property, holding a knife. Officers promptly responded to the scene to address the situation.

Upon arrival, the officers were able to locate and detain the male subject without incident. A knife was discovered near the area where the suspect was found. Officers proceeded with a preliminary investigation, gathering statements from witnesses who had observed the events. After assessing the situation, it was confirmed that there was no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.

The individual involved in this incident, identified as Adam James Schafer, age 41, from Fairfield, IA, was arrested and charged with several offenses. These include Going Armed with Intent, a Class D Felony, as well as multiple misdemeanors for Interference with Official Acts, Criminal Mischief in the 5th Degree, and Disorderly Conduct.

Currently, Schafer is being held at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on bond, pending his initial court appearance.
