A Fairfield woman faces multiple charges after officers responded to a disturbance in Fairfield on Friday.

Charity Lynn Dakota Stropes, 28, was charged with Domestic Assault — Third or Subsequent Offense, a Class D felony, and Child Endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to a press release from the Fairfield Police Department, officers responded to a report of a female screaming in the 500 block of West Jackson Avenue on April 3rd. Upon arrival, officers determined the incident involved a male and female who reside together at the location. Officers conducted interviews with both individuals as well as witnesses in the area.

According to court documents, the victim stated that Stropes threw a filled cup at his head, and two witnesses corroborated the account. Court records indicate Stropes has two prior domestic abuse assault convictions, with conviction dates of March 15th, 2022 and November 1st, 2023, making the current charge her third or subsequent offense.

Officers also discovered that a 6-month-old child — who Stropes and the victim share together — had been left unattended in the residence. According to court documents, the home was filled with insects, trash, rotting food, and numerous other hazardous items. Court records indicate Stropes is the primary care provider for the child and the only parent listed on the birth certificate. Court documents state that Stropes left the child unattended in those conditions to exit the residence and assault the father of the child, and that when officers arrived to interview her about the assault, she again left the child unattended in the residence. Officers noted these actions left the child without appropriate supervision and could have led to physical harm.

Stropes is currently being held at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on a $5,000 cash or surety bond following her initial court appearance. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 14th. A no contact order has been requested in this case.
