A Fairfield man is facing two charges after an alleged assault at a local restaurant Thursday evening and a second incident during booking at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
Lael Lett, 25, was charged with Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, both aggravated misdemeanors.
According to a press release from the Fairfield Police Department, officers responded to El Paso Tex Mex at 7:53 p.m. on April 2nd for a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject being restrained on the ground by employees and patrons of the business.
According to court documents, the victim was walking past the area where Lett was seated when Lett stood up, grabbed him around the neck, and struck him in the mouth with a closed fist. Court records note no interaction between the two had been observed prior to the attack and the victim was performing his work duties at the time. He sustained a bruise and cut to his lip, cuts inside his mouth, and redness and marks on his neck where he had been grabbed. Emergency medical personnel evaluated him on scene and his condition was documented.
Officers arrested Lett and transported him to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. According to court documents, Lett became combative the following day during the intake process on April 3rd, refusing to comply with jail staff instructions to keep his hands on the wall. When an officer attempted to guide Lett’s right hand back into position, Lett bit him on the hand. The officer was wearing protective gloves at the time and sustained no injuries, with no marks observed, according to court records.
Lett is being held at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on a $4,000 cash or surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 13th.
