The daughter of Daryl Rawn Sr. and Viola Lucille (Doland) Hanawalt, Dorothy was born on July 28, 1945, in Colfax, Iowa. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1963. Dorothy worked as a prep cook and took a lot of pride in making food for others. Throughout her life she was involved with the Camp Center Church of Christ near Runnells and the Newton Church of Christ.

Dorothy had several hobbies she enjoyed during her free time. She loved to play sudoku, color, go fishing, spend time camping, gardening, and growing flowers. The inside and outside of her house were always full of plants and flowers. She had a special knack for keeping them all alive and looking nice. Dorothy loved her animals; cats, dogs, any animals she could find. Of all the hobbies and passions, Dorothy’s grandchildren took first place. She was proud to be their grandma and would spend time making memories with them whenever she could.
