Judith Anne “Judy” (Miller) Livesay, age 85, passed away on January 8, 2026. A visitation will be held at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax, Iowa, on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Following visitation, a graveside service will be held at Vandalia Cemetery outside of Prairie City, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Van Meter Public Library, PO box 89, Van Meter, Iowa 50261. The daughter of Cecil Miller and Opal (Grimes) Miller, Judy was born on August 2, 1940, in Runnells, Iowa. She grew up in the Runnells area and later graduated from Prairie City High School. After graduation she moved to Des Moines and attended business school. On November 21, 1961, she was united in marriage to Dick Livesay. Judy and Dick settled down firstly in Des Moines and began growing their family. They later moved to Van Meter where she and Dick opened their corner grocery store, D & J Grocery. She would help run the store alongside Dick. Judy worked later at the EMC insurance company in administrative roles. She worked for EMC for many years before retirement, filling several roles in different departments over the years.
In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards and other games with her friends, especially canasta. Over the years she was an avid supporter of Van Meter athletics, attending countless games. After moving into Woodlands Creek in Clive, Judy joined the menu committee to ensure that the residents always had a good meal. Above all things Judy loved her family. She was happy to offer her presence and help.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Terry Livesay of Winterset, Iowa; her daughter, Sherma (Mike) Mather of Richmond, Virgina; a granddaughter, Kiersen Mather of New York City, New York; a brother, Larry “Butch” Miller of Runnells, Iowa; a niece, Tiffany (Justin) Miller of Panora, Iowa; and many more nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Preceding Judy in death include her husband, Dick Livesay; her parents; and a sister, Norma Breckenridge.
