An Ottumwa man has been taken into custody for causing damage to the Wabash Pedestrian Bridge.
On October 12th, at approximately 7:11 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department questioned Kepa Kiro, 29, of Ottumwa, regarding graffiti found on the bridge. According to court documents, Kiro admitted to knowingly causing damage by writing graffiti on the train mural and a bridge support beam.
Police reported that Kiro used a black marker to commit the vandalism, which resulted in damages totaling less than $1,500. A warrant for his arrest was issued on November 30th, leading to his detention in the Wapello County Jail. Kiro now faces charges of criminal mischief in the third degree, an aggravated misdemeanor, and criminal mischief in the second degree, a class D felony.
A plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 18th, and Kiro is currently being held on a cash-only bond of $2,000.
