A 36-year-old Fairfield man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a woman protected by a court order and setting fire to her vehicle early Monday morning.
Jerome David Chamberlin was taken into custody on October 27th following an incident that occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m. at the victim’s residence.
According to the Fairfield Police Department, officers responded to a report of an assault involving a subject who had violated a protection order. The protection order stems from a domestic abuse assault charge that occurred in early September. Upon arrival, they spoke with a female victim who reported that Chamberlin arrived at her home despite an active protection order prohibiting contact.
According to court records, when the victim attempted to call 911, Chamberlin allegedly threw her phone into the yard, preventing her from seeking help. The victim then entered her vehicle in an attempt to call for emergency assistance but was unsuccessful.
During the incident, Chamberlin allegedly broke the driver’s side mirror and door handle of the victim’s vehicle. He then reportedly placed a pile of leaves on the hood of the vehicle and ignited them while the victim was still inside.
The situation escalated when Chamberlin allegedly stole the victim’s car keys from her pocket. According to court documents, during the theft, he assaulted the victim by pushing her down and head-butting her.
Officers interviewed witnesses at the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation before locating and arresting Chamberlin on site. He faces six charges:
- Robbery 2nd Degree (Class C Felony)
- Assault Committed by a Person Against Whom a Protection Order is Issued (Class D Felony)
- Criminal Mischief 4th Degree (Serious Misdemeanor)
- Reckless Use of Fire (Serious Misdemeanor)
- Violation of a No Contact Order (Simple Misdemeanor)
- Obstruction of Emergency Communications (Simple Misdemeanor)
Chamberlin is currently being held at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. Following his initial court appearance, bond was set at $15,600.
