A southeast Iowa man is facing a felony stalking charge after police say he violated a restraining order multiple times in downtown Fairfield on Monday afternoon.
Edward Marcus Hathcock, 39, of Fairfield was arrested in the 100 block of North Main Street following a coordinated search by the Fairfield Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the area at 3:43 p.m. receiving reports that an individual, later identified as Hathcock, was violating a restraining order. Upon arrival, officers learned Hathcock may have been attempting to contact a protected party in violation of the court order.
Fairfield police requested assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to help canvas the area. Law enforcement later located and detained Hathcock without incident.
Hathcock was charged with one count of Stalking in Violation of a Restraining Order, a Class C felony, and three counts of Violation of a Restraining Order, a simple misdemeanor.
Hathcock was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance, though no date has been announced.
