A local man is facing a list of serious charges following a chaotic scene Tuesday morning on the city’s south side.

Just after 10 a.m. on May 27, officers responded to reports of a disturbance in the 100 block of West Maple Avenue. According to court documents, 44-year-old Ray Aruki approached a Water Works employee who was sitting inside a company truck and allegedly struck him through the open window.

Moments later, witnesses reported seeing Aruki chasing another individual in the same area — this time armed with a knife — as the victim attempted to drive away.

When police arrived, Aruki reportedly refused to drop the weapon and began throwing rocks at two marked patrol vehicles. Officers say he then ran into his home and barricaded himself in a bedroom. After repeated commands were ignored, officers were able to take him into custody without further incident.

Aruki is now facing multiple charges, including:

  • Burglary 2nd Degree (Class C Felony)
  • Assault (Simple Misdemeanor)
  • Interference with Official Acts – Display Weapon (Class D Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
  • Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations (Serious Misdemeanor)
  • Going Armed with Intent (Class D Felony)

He is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 6.
