An arrest has been made in a sexual assault case from 20 years ago, according to the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office.
47-year-old Jeffary Dowding of Eldon has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony.
Authorities say a victim came forward with the support of a victim advocate. The alleged crime occurred in 2005 in Eldon.
In a press release, the sheriff’s office encouraged other victims to contact law enforcement.
“This case serves as a reminder that it is never too late for victims to seek justice. We encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse to come forward, knowing they will be met with compassion and professionalism.”
Dowding is currently in the Wapello County Jail where his bail has been set at $10,000.
