Linda Binns, 77, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Linda Kay Binns, daughter of Charles and Louise (Moffet) Heaton, was born in Oskaloosa on November 23, 1947. Linda grew up in Oskaloosa and was a member of the 1966 graduating class from Oskaloosa High School. Upon graduation, Linda worked for Stafford Insurance as a secretary. Linda married the love of her life, John “Bill” William Binns, at the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa on March 19, 1969. They spent their first two years of marriage in Spain, where Bill was stationed with the military. After Bill’s discharge in 1971, the couple returned to Oskaloosa, and Linda returned to her job with Staffard’s Insurance. In 1975, Bill’s job with Hy-Vee relocated the family to several communities around Iowa. In 2000, they moved back to the Oskaloosa area and purchased the Binns Family Farm, where they lived until 2019, when they moved back into Oskaloosa.
For many years, Linda enjoyed quilting; the quilt group she belonged to created quilts for hospice and hospital patients. Linda received the Quilt Hangers Award at the Iowa State Fair, an award given to only the best quilters.
Left to cherish Linda’s memory are her husband, Bill; her son, Owen (Adriel) Binns of Altoona, Iowa; her daughter, Sarah (Quintin) Shepherd of Pflugerville, Texas; five grandchildren: Jack, Noel, and Drew Binns; Vivian, and Gwendolyn Shepherd.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lee Heaton.
A visitation for Linda will begin after 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2024, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 4-6 p.m. Her ashes will be interred at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Adel, Iowa. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mahaska Hospice Foundation for the Hospice Serenity House.
