A 14-year-old male student faces several charges in connection to a knife attack earlier this week at Pella Middle School.
The student, who has not been identified, was charged with three counts of attempted murder (Class B felony), two counts of willful injury (Class D felony), one count of assault with intent to inflict serious injury (aggravated misdemeanor), and one count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor (serious misdemeanor).
On Wednesday at 7:41 AM, the Pella Police Department says it was notified of a situation involving a student armed with a knife at Pella Middle School.
According to investigators, the male student brought a large kitchen knife to school and attacked three students in the cafeteria. Authorities say the offender attacked a female student first, striking her in the neck and back several times.
The department says the male student then attacked a second student but was unsuccessful. The perpetrator attacked a third student and struck her on the arm with the knife.
According to police, law enforcement arrived at the school at 7:43 AM and was able to quickly secure the scene and take the male student into custody.
The two injured students were treated at the scene for minor lacerations and did not require hospitalization.
Classes at the school were canceled for the day after the incident. Police say Pella Middle School staff reunited the victims and other students with their respective families.
The Pella Police Department says the case remains under investigation.
