The Centerville City Council held its second meeting of the month on Monday.
After the agenda was approved, the floor was open for public comments and Brenda Fry spoke. Fry is the daughter of city councilman Ron Creagan who was charged with third-degree harassment last week.
Fry talked about an ongoing feud between her family and Scott Buban. Buban was recently elected to the Appanoose County Board of Supervisors. Fry says Buban should be “ashamed of himself for starting this infantile bashing of another elected official.”
Fry claims her next-door neighbors recorded her family’s conversations and took pictures of them without their permission. According to Fry, Creagan was standing up for his loved ones in response to the alleged annoyances.
“My dad did what any good parent would do and defended his family. Honestly, most parents would’ve acted in much worse of a manner. Dad [Creagan] simply asked our neighbor a question and made a harmless statement. I find it completely disgraceful that he [Buban] can’t own up to everything he has done to my family and most importantly how he could be so childish and go to such lengths to hurt a law-abiding man that has spent his life doing nothing but good things for our community and its citizens.”
Fry characterized the charge Creagan faces as “bogus.”
The consent agenda and bills were approved by the city council.
During his report, City Administrator Jason Fraser says union negotiations will begin in December. Fraser also reported the city sent out 1,700 letters to inform citizens of possible lead in their water. When asked if the city will pay to have an individual’s water tested, Frasor said the testing will have to be done privately although there is a local entity that can test for lead.
Public Works Director Steve Hawkins told the city council that road work is wrapping up for the season with three projects yet to be finished but the weather has not been ideal recently. Hawkins informed the public that starting Tuesday, the 500 block of West Cottage will be cut open and work will be done for most of this week so motorists will have to find an alternate route.
The next Centerville City Council Meeting will take place on December 2.
