A southeast Iowa man with an open warrant faces an unrelated charge after allegedly being found with drugs during his arrest.
61-year-old Jeffery Clark of Centerville was charged with a controlled substance violation – drug trafficking, a Class B felony.
Shortly before 1:00 AM on November 3, court records say an officer from the Centerville Police Department pulled over a vehicle registered in Clark’s name traveling southbound on 18th Street after being advised that Clark had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in Wapello County.
Police say Clark was in the passenger seat of the vehicle. He surrendered to authorities and was transported to the Appanoose County Jail.
While another officer was giving directions to the man driving Clark’s vehicle, the officer observed a sandwich baggie with a crystalline substance on the ground near the passenger door. The baggie was dry and had no moisture on it even though it rained intermittently that day.
The two officers later determined the sandwich bag contained 12.6 grams of methamphetamine and belonged to Clark, according to court documents.
Clark remains housed in the Appanoose County Jail. His bond has been set at $25,000.
