The Centerville City Council held its meeting on Monday night.
The council’s first action was to approve the consent agenda which included the approval of the minutes from the previous city council meeting.
There was a public hearing scheduled for the conveyance of a property on West Wall Street but City Administrator Jason Fraser noted there were no bids on the property.
After the bills were approved, Chief Tom Demry of the Centerville Police Department gave his report for the month of September. The department made arrests that resulted in 54 misdemeanor and felony charges. In regards to city code, Demry said there were six contacts with accumulation of debris, 13 parking citations, 25 animal calls, and 22 vehicle lockouts. The current Appanoose County Jail population is 22 according to Demry.
Demry also mentioned a new dispatcher started in September and two new officers were hired, making the department fully staffed for the first time in four years.
Chief Vern Milburn of the Centerville Fire Department reported to the city council that the department responded to two structure fires in September. Additionally, EMS received 118 medical calls in the past month.
Council unanimously approved an engagement letter with Hopkins and Huebner, a law firm based in Des Moines.
The next city Centerville council meeting is scheduled for October 21.
