The City of Ottumwa Council members approved consideration readings after citizens addressed their concerns. The readings approved amended the Fire Protection and Prevention Code, Motor Vehicles and Traffic Code, and zoning classifications.
On August 20, the City Council members passed the first consideration for amending the Fire and Prevention Code. The modification requires Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems in certain business and residential buildings.
The Council voted four to one. Council members seconded to with hold from future considerations for the ordinance.
The Council had adopted the amending code concerning golf cart use within City limits. This evening, the council passed the second consideration three to two.
Formerly a Family Crisis Center, the apartments are pending to hold those who are homeless or in need of resources. During the meeting, it was made known that those who will live in the apartments are required to go through a program that assesses mental and physical needs. Citizens, who live in the area, addressed their concerns about the 200 ft. zoning classification for notices in their mail and signage posted near the property. The signage is illegible from the street view.
The second reading for amending the zoning classification of the property on North Elm Street and the modification from a two-family residential district to a multifamily residential district was passed by the Council.
Additionally, the public is invited to attend a meeting concerning zoning classification. The meeting will be held at Ottumwa City Hall on September 10 at 6 p.m.
