Phillip Michael Micetich, affectionately known by many as “Butch”, was born on March 2, 1945, in Centerville, Iowa to Phillip Jake and Frances Mary (Kopatich) Micetich. Butch spent his entire 79 years in the county he loved, farming its rich soil, while also working for Union Carbide for 44 years, contributing to its manufacturing industries. He would become a beloved figure in the local coffee shop where he was often found engaging in lively discussions and problem-solving sessions with friends. Butch’s generous spirit, sense of humor, and humble nature made him a cherished part of his community.
Butch was a man who embraced hard work and the simple pleasures in life with equal passion. He spent his professional years in farming and factory work, contributing his skills and tireless efforts to Bemis before retiring. Even after retiring, you still couldn’t keep him out of the fields, always lending a helping hand to neighbors and friends. His love for the land extended beyond his career into his personal life, where he found joy in mushroom hunting and the peaceful solitude of fishing. He was a funny man who was quick to share a laugh, his stories often lighting up the room and the faces of those around him. Generosity was another of Butch’s defining traits, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.
But above all, Butch was a family man. His family was the cornerstone of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Butch’s humble approach to life, coupled with his boundless generosity and infectious humor, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. He was a man who embodied the spirit of community, the love for nature, an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.
Survivors include, Judy Swearingin; Children, Kenny (Krishna) Carlyle, Mark (Erin) Micetich, Missy (Jack) Parrish ;grandchildren, Kathryn & Kyra Carlyle, Samantha (Dustin Zotz) Micetich, Kasidee Micetich, Brayden Raskie, Aiden Parrish, one great granddaughter, Cambree Zotz; three sisters, Delores “Dee” Smith, Marcela Doggett, Marge Stickler. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Frances Micetich; siblings, Carl, Ed, Tom Micetich, Florene Davis, & Phyllis Tracy; two nephews, Mike and Britt Micetich.
A celebration of life will be announced in the near future. Butch Micetich, a man of extraordinary heart and humble spirit, will be greatly missed by many.
