November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and blood donors will have an added opportunity to learn more about their health while helping save lives.
Throughout November, successful blood and platelet donations will include an opportunity to receive a free A1C test. The test measures average blood sugar levels over the past two to three months and is commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes.
The program is designed to help empower donors with additional health information while encouraging community members to give blood and support patients in need.
Donors do not need to fast before giving blood to receive the A1C test. The offer is limited to one result per calendar year.
Community members are encouraged to schedule a blood or platelet donation during November and take advantage of this additional health screening opportunity.
