A southwest Iowa farmer says drier conditions are providing a much-needed opportunity to catch up on harvest.
Mitchell Williamson of Wiota says they’ll be fully turning over to corn soon.
“We’re just getting close to wrapping up on soybeans here,” he said. “We’ve had to fight near-record rainfall through the end of August and through the entire month of September. So, we’re still battling a little bit with getting around some of the muddier parts of the farm.”
He tells Brownfield soybeans yields have been above average.
“The crop has been looking good pretty much all summer long,” he said. “Now we’re getting some sunshine here with some nice warm days. Just looking at moving forward and getting as many acres done as we possibly can.”
Williamson says he’s also expecting a strong finish for his 2026 corn harvest.
