The City of Fairfield swore in a new assistant city attorney Monday, adding legal support to an office that has been shorthanded in recent months.
Holden Smith took the oath of office at the Oct. 26 city council meeting, administered by Mayor Connie Boyer. Smith has been interning with the city since May 2025 and graduated from law school in May 2026. He passed the bar exam this summer.
City Attorney John Morrissey, who introduced Smith to the council, said the addition would help him catch up on work that had slipped while he dealt with health issues.
“I think you’re going to be well pleased,” Morrissey told the council. “I think we’re going to have a lot of things accomplished that maybe I’ve been a little slow on. I mean that seriously. I’m recouping on a couple things that have affected me healthwise in the last few months and Holden is a godsend. So I think probably you’ll find that he is a good man to work with, and he just is just generally a good man, so we’ll look forward to that.”
Smith said he was honored to take on the role.
“I’m very honored to be here and excited to serve the city and the citizens of Fairfield,” he said.
