A north-central Iowa farmer says her 2026 harvest is exceeding expectations.
April Hemmes of Hampton tells Brownfield, “I’m on corn now. I did finish soybeans,” she said. “Best beans ever. I mean, by a long shot, and that’s kind of what my neighbors are also saying. And the corn is doing phenomenal too.”
She says her area received a large amount of rain just as harvest season was getting underway.
“September was not fun. That was what the ground didn’t need,” Hemmes said. “But it dried up quick. I’m surprised. We were back in the fields pretty quick.”
Hemmes says she has about eight to ten days left of corn harvest.
She spoke to Brownfield at the 2026 Borlaug International Dialogue in Des Moines.
