Jefferson County voters preparing for the November 3rd, 2026 General Election should be aware of several upcoming deadlines for voter registration and absentee voting. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
The pre-registration deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19th. Voters can check their registration status or register to vote at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at sos.iowa.gov.
In-person absentee voting begins Wednesday, October 14th at the Jefferson County Election Office on the main floor of the Jefferson County Courthouse, 51 East Briggs Avenue, Fairfield. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended hours are available on October 19th and October 30th until 5:00 p.m., and the office will be open Saturday, October 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The last day to vote absentee in person is Monday, November 2nd.
For those wishing to vote by mail, absentee ballot requests must be received by 5:00 p.m. on October 19th. Absentee ballots will begin being mailed out on October 14th. The absentee ballot request form is available at sos.iowa.gov and completed forms should be mailed or delivered to the Jefferson County Auditor at 51 East Briggs Avenue, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
Voters should note that two polling locations have changed for this election. The Fairfield 2nd Ward has moved to the County Engineer’s Office at 901 North 8th Street in Fairfield, and the Fairfield 5th Ward has moved to Friends Church at 1209 South 6th Street in Fairfield.

Buchanan precinct — First United Methodist Church, 201 North Court, Fairfield.
Center-Cedar-Round Prairie-Maharishi Vedic City precinct — Jefferson County Ag Grounds Activity Building, 2606 West Burlington, Fairfield.
Des Moines-Liberty-Libertyville precinct — Libertyville Community Center, 110 North Main, Libertyville.
Fairfield 1st Ward — Fairfield High School Auditorium Lobby, 605 East Broadway, Fairfield.
Fairfield 2nd Ward — County Engineer’s Office, 901 North 8th Street, Fairfield. (New location)
Fairfield 3rd Ward — Nazarene Family Center, 507 West Briggs Avenue, Fairfield.
Fairfield 4th Ward — Jefferson County Courthouse, 51 East Briggs Avenue, Fairfield.
Fairfield 5th Ward — Friends Church, 1209 South 6th Street, Fairfield. (New location)
Lockridge-City of Lockridge precinct — Lockridge School Gym, 103 South Center, Lockridge.
