Iowa’s agricultural heritage and military service will take center stage during America’s Harvest Festival, a statewide celebration marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 1 p.m. until dark on the Iowa State Capitol grounds in Des Moines. The festival is free and open to the public.
The Iowa Army and Air National Guard will bring a variety of military equipment and interactive experiences for visitors of all ages. One of the highlights will be a special flyover featuring four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
Army displays will include field artillery howitzers, armored military vehicles, a field ambulance, small drones and a Civil Support Team mobile laboratory. Visitors can also explore Air Force experiences, including flight and cyber simulators, the immersive “Shockwave” experience, a mobile field kitchen and a military firetruck.
In addition to the military exhibits, festivalgoers can enjoy live entertainment, agricultural displays, historical demonstrations, local food and family-friendly activities. A drone show is also planned as part of the celebration.
Organizers say the festival will bring Iowans together to recognize the state’s agricultural traditions, honor those who serve and celebrate the history and community spirit that have helped shape Iowa and the nation.
America’s Harvest Festival is part of Iowa’s culminating America250 celebration, commemorating 250 years of American history.
