U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, hosted his seventh Federal Judiciary Youth Summit in Des Moines, bringing together students and educators from 11 central Iowa high schools to learn about the federal judicial system.
The summit focused on the role of the judicial branch of government and provided students with an opportunity to hear from federal officials and ask questions about the legal system.
Grassley was joined by U.S. District Judge Rebecca Ebinger and U.S. Attorney David Waterman, who serve in the Southern District of Iowa. Grassley previously recommended both individuals for their positions and supported their nominations in the U.S. Senate.
During a question-and-answer session, Grassley discussed his professional background, personal mentors, overcoming challenges and maintaining a work-life balance.
Grassley said the event was an opportunity to discuss the federal judiciary and encourage students to learn more about government and civic participation.
Educators and students from J.W. Reed Christian Academy shared their perspectives on the summit. One teacher described the event as an opportunity to better understand how the federal government operates, while students said the presentations provided information about government and allowed them to ask questions and share their views.
The Federal Judiciary Youth Summit is part of Grassley’s ongoing efforts to provide students with opportunities to learn about government institutions and the judicial process.
