Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress (GOPIP) celebrated another year of community growth and achievement Thursday night during its annual banquet at the Bridge View Center.
The event brought community members together to recognize local contributions, reflect on accomplishments and look ahead to future opportunities for the Ottumwa area.
Keynote speaker Tom Hicks of Throw & Catch Consulting used the art of juggling to deliver a message about developing a growth mindset and learning to embrace failure. His presentation encouraged attendees to view challenges as opportunities to learn, grow and improve rather than setbacks.
The evening also recognized two recipients for their contributions to the community and local business community. Tom Schaffer received the Gene Shultz Community Service Award, while Gregg Young Automotive was named Business of the Year.
Diana Dominguez, office associate for GOPIP, said the organization made significant progress over the past year in three key areas: workforce development, housing and community partnerships.
Dominguez also emphasized that those areas will remain priorities as GOPIP looks toward the future.
As the organization continues its work, its focus remains on strengthening the local workforce, addressing housing needs and building partnerships that help move the community forward.
The annual banquet provided an opportunity to recognize the people and businesses making a difference in the Ottumwa area while reaffirming GOPIP’s commitment to continued growth and progress.
