The Broadway Players of Fairfield High School will take the stage this weekend for three performances of “Letters from the Titanic,” a play centered on a modern family’s discovery of what may be authentic correspondence from passengers aboard the ill-fated ocean liner.
Performances are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. in the Edgeton, Mitcheltree, Slechta Auditorium at Fairfield High School. The production is appropriate for general audiences. Tickets are $6 at the door or free with a Fairfield Community School District Activity Pass. Seating is general admission, and doors open 30 minutes before each show.
The play follows Denise D’Onofrio, a cash-strapped New York City realtor who discovers a collection of old letters tucked inside an oilskin bag marked RMS Titanic. What she and her husband Richie initially assume to be junk or theatrical props may turn out to be preserved messages written by the ship’s passengers — setting off a journey that forces Denise to weigh the financial relief the letters could bring her family against the moral question of returning them to the descendants of those who wrote them.
