Chuck Jones, a 19-year veteran of the Council Bluffs Fire Department and a longtime member of IAFF Local 15, is being remembered for his dedication to his family, fellow firefighters, and the community he served.
On the morning of October 5, Jones was assigned to Engine 61 when he began showing signs of distress while responding to a fire. Despite his condition, he remained on duty. Later that morning, while responding to a medical call, his condition worsened, and he began exhibiting signs of a stroke.
Fellow firefighters transported Jones to the emergency department before he was transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He was surrounded by his parents, wife, two daughters, and fellow firefighters.
Ten years ago, Jones overcame cancer and returned to work, continuing to serve his family, colleagues, and community. He remained committed to his profession, regularly attending training sessions and sharing what he learned with fellow firefighters.
Throughout his career, Jones was known as a mentor, friend, and dependable presence. He served through challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, severe Midwestern weather, flooding, and staffing shortages.
His dedication to the fire service and the people around him left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
The community is being encouraged to support Jones’ family during this difficult time, honoring the same spirit of service and commitment that he demonstrated throughout his career.
