BREAKING: Sigourney Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash in Keokuk County

An 83-year-old Sigourney man died Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in Keokuk County on October 1st, according to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of 270th Avenue and 335th Street near Ollie. According to the report, both vehicles were traveling northbound on 270th Avenue approaching 335th Street when the second vehicle slowed to make a right turn. The first vehicle, a 2017 Ram ProMaster driven by Phillip J. Blackhurst, 83, of Sigourney, rear-ended the second vehicle, a 2013 GMC Sierra driven by Steven J. Greiner, 65, of Packwood. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound ditch.

Blackhurst was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Greiner was injured and transported to Keokuk County Hospital by Keokuk County Ambulance. His seatbelt is credited with saving his life.

The crash was assisted by multiple law enforcement, emergency medical, and fire department agencies.
