Sigourney High School crowned its 2026 Homecoming Queen and King on Wednesday, September 23rd during Boom Night on Cobra Field, following a parade through Sigourney that began at 7:00 p.m. at the elementary school and proceeded toward the high school.
Bob Howard was selected as Grand Marshal for the parade. Howard is a former Sigourney-Keota football Hall of Fame coach who led the program to three state championships.
Sadie Clarahan was crowned Homecoming Queen and Hayden Bensmiller was crowned Homecoming King, selected from a court announced on September 11th that included Caylee Corbin, Clara Hanselman, Addy Tremmel, Sadie Clarahan, Carson O’Rourke, Ike Molyneux, Chase “Lou” Clarahan, and Hayden Bensmiller.
Afterwards, both said they were caught off guard by the honor. “I was more surprised than anything. I figured it’d be some of my classmates instead of me, but I’m here so,” Bensmiller said. “I was kind of nervous the whole time. I’m not much of a crowd person myself, but that’s fun. It’s alright.” Clarahan echoed the sentiment. “I completely agree — I was very surprised when my name was called,” she said. “I think I was honored. I was just feeling kind of nervous and happy. I just feel like anyone who got on Homecoming Court really deserved it.”
Sigourney-Keota, now 1-3 on the season, hosts Louisa-Muscatine, also 1-3, for their homecoming football game on Friday, September 25th.
