An Ottumwa man was sentenced in a federal court this week, stemming from a car chase that involved law enforcement in February.
According to court documents, John Amburn Jr., 25, was driving a stolen car on February 25th and engaged in a high-speed chase with a Wapello County Sheriff’s Office detective. The pursuit ended when Amburn crashed the car into a telephone pole.
In the aftermath of the accident, a .22-caliber handgun was found in Amburn’s coat pocket. Amburn was previously convicted for carrying a concealed weapon in 2020 and possession of a firearm by a domestic violence offender in 2022.
Amburn was sentenced to seven years in federal prison. Once his sentence is completed, Amburn must spend three years on supervised release.
