An Ottumwa man has been charged with first-degree murder after a gunshot victim passed away from his injuries.
Last week, Donovan Wilson, 19, was arrested after authorities say he shot Cameron Downen, 19, in a trailer park in Albia Road in Ottumwa. Wilson was charged with first-degree burglary and attempted murder after his arrest.
Lieutenant Jason Bell of the Ottumwa Police Department says Downen died from his injuries on Friday, September 18th. As a result, Wilson’s attempted murder charged has been upgraded to first-degree murder, a Class A felony.
If found guilty, Wilson faces a potential sentence of life in prison without parole.
Wilson is currently in the Wapello County Jail and is being held without bond. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 25.
