Ottumwa police say a man is in custody in connection to a Wednesday night shooting that occurred in a trailer park.
Lieutenant Jason Bell says the department received a call at 5:30 PM advising them that a male was shot at a trailer park on Albia Road in Ottumwa. Another call regarding the same incident came from a private vehicle that was taking the gunshot victim to Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
The victim was identified as 19-year-old Cameron Downen of Ottumwa. According to Bell, Downen was subsequently transported to a hospital in Iowa City to treat his injuries. Downen is currently in critical condition, according to authorities.
Officials say Donovan Joseph Wilson, 19, of Ottumwa was arrested for his role in the incident. Wilson was charged with first-degree burglary and attempt to commit murder. Both offenses are Class B felonies.
